» No Little Fixes or a Bunch of Complexities to Remember Show Answer | Hide
(MckLinky Lists) - Keywords: tricks, fixes, complex
Do you have to remember a bunch of little tricks and complexities to get MckLinky to work?

No. Unlike other services that have lots of little things you must remember to make things work correctly, MckLinky strives to WORK THE WAY YOU WORK... not force you to remember or learn how WE want you to work.

The tools are simple, easy to use. Where needed, we give instruction and demo's but all the tools are using just, click, click, click and use. Simple, easy, fun.

If you have any suggestions on how we can improve things and make MckLinky even easier, please don't hesitate to contact us.

» Wordpress.com and Blogs that Do Not Allow Javascript Show Answer | Hide
(MckLinky Lists) - Keywords: wordpress, iframes, javascript
Wordpress.com (blogs hosted ON Wordpress.com) does not support the technology necessary to include MckLinky directly on your blog page. There is no way around this because of Wordpress security policies.

So, Wordpress.com users are given code that opens a MckLinky page on our website. We host your links, entry form and other information on a separate page from your blog.

This way you can still use MckLinky even with blogs hosted at Wordpress.com or blogs that do not allow javascript, iFrames or scripts.

» My Link List is Not Showing Up Show Answer | Hide
(MckLinky Lists) - Keywords:
Common reasons are:

You didn't paste the code in while in HTML view. If you are not in HTML view, then the code can be changed by Blogger and other blog hosts.

You used the Wordpress.com code which takes you to a separate page. Try the first code available on the blog code page.

There is an error in your SCRIPT. Look for the line of code that starts with a "<" then "SCRIPT"... make sure that line of code is EXACTLY like what you received from the blog code page.

» Start and Stop Dates Show Answer | Hide
(MckLinky Lists) - Keywords: start date, stop date
Stop date is when people are no longer allowed to enter links. The time is as of midnight the night of the stop date.

As soon as you post, people can add links, so use your blog software to schedule the post. In other words, if your post is for next week, then go ahead and put your MckLinky code in, but use your blogging sofware to schedule when your post will appear on your blog.

For example, let?s say today is July 1st and I want to run a carnival on the 3rd and 4th.

I would create a list, and make the start date 7/3/2009, and the stop date 7/4/2009.

Then I would create my post, put my content and MckLinky code in, and then schedule that post (using my blogging software) to appear on July 3.

On July 4, at midnight, the list would say ?this list is now closed.?

It is important to use Stop Dates so that down the road, spammers cannot enter links and junk information that you constantly must go back and manage.

» Blogger Preview Mode Show Answer | Hide
(MckLinky Lists) - Keywords: preview, links not showing
If you are using Blogger (Blogspot), then the MckLinky list will NOT show up in their PREVIEW mode.

Other blogs may behave the same way. The way to test this, is to publish the blog post for a moment and see if the list shows.

» Where's My List Title? Show Answer | Hide
(MckLinky Lists) - Keywords: list title, friendly title
The title you give your lists in your User Dashboard are for your use only.

They are friendly titles that help you identify and manage your lists. They do NOT show up anywhere publicly.

» Why do the Basic MckLinky links open a new window for your reader? Show Answer | Hide
(MckLinky Lists) - Keywords: links new window
The first week MckLinky was online, the links did NOT open a new window and took readers to the new blog that was clicked.

People emailed by the tons and said they were losing viewers who left the site every time they clicked a link, and readers said it was annoying to have to go back to the blog time after time to follow the next link on the list.

The only minor drawback is that when people leave, and "come back" to your blog, you get some additional "visit" stats. I see the point about getting more visits, but in this case, they are artificial visits anyway because it's the same person returning just to click on another link... not a genuine measure of your traffic.

It was universally praised by MckLinky users when I changed to the "open new window" link configuration because 1) it's more convenient for the reader who wants to go through your list (they open a link, view it, close it, and are back on your blog) and 2) it keeps people from leaving your blog unless they do it on purpose.

Keeping people on your blog until they CHOOSE to leave is always the best strategy. And making it easier for your readers to use your list is always the best strategy.
